Description:
Are you ready to exercise your neuroplasticity? During this experiential workshop, you will not only learn about the science of neuroplasticity but also the influence of words through literary arts. After an overview of Poetry Therapy, we will read and discuss two poems. Then using three poetic techniques that promote personal exploration, emotional awareness and reflection, each participant will write a poem. These will be shared (as comfortable) and we will discuss when this strategy may be implemented in a therapeutic session. No prior writing experience necessary. (60% Experiential 30% Didactic)
Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Using poetry participants will:
- Better understand the science of neuroplasticity and the mind’s ability to change
- Identify the human condition to apply meaning where there is not
- Explore personal histories through writing challenging our prior beliefs and/or self-awareness.
- Describe two client profiles that may benefit from Poetry Therapy
