Become a Washington State Approved Supervisor: September 11-12, Federal Way, 15 NBCC Hours

08/10/2026 11:20 AM | Sara Oppler (Administrator)

A two-day, in-person intensive for licensed clinicians who want to supervise associates in Washington. It provides the 15 clock hours of clinical supervision training the state requires under chapter 246-809 WAC. Washington also asks for 25 hours of experience in supervision of clinical practice, which you complete on the job, and an unrestricted license in good standing for the previous two years.

The two days carry 15 NBCC hours: 6 hours of professional ethics and law, 2 hours of professional roles and boundaries in its own block, and 2 hours of health equity meeting the implicit bias standard. The remaining hours count as general continuing education.

Supervision is a relationship before it is a compliance activity, and this training is built that way. You will map the supervisory systems you sit inside and locate yourself in them, apply the Person-of-Supervisor framework through differentiation of self, attachment, and self-regulation, write supervisory contracts that hold, track the patterns that move between the therapy room and the supervision room, carry the legal and ethical duties chapter 246-809 WAC places on you, evaluate fairly and handle gatekeeping with care, and name and interrupt implicit bias, power, and social location without shame. No family systems background needed.

FACILITATORS
Dr. Jennifer Sampson, PhD, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Washington State approved supervisor.
Margaret MacLeod, MS, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Washington State approved supervisor.

OPEN TO
Licensed mental health counselors, licensed clinical and advanced social workers, and licensed marriage and family therapists. Associates and students are welcome to attend and learn, though the approved supervisor designation itself requires full licensure. This training provides the state's 15-hour training requirement. It does not meet the standards for the AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation, which runs through AAMFT's own pathway.
