Envision Counseling Presents:

Becoming a Washington State Approved Clinical Supervisor

2-day Clinical Supervisor Training

Fri & Sat, October 16-17, 2024, 8 AM-5 PM

Registration: $369 (covers both days of training)

Description

Clinical supervision is one of the profession's greatest responsibilities. Effective supervisors do more than oversee clinical work—they cultivate ethical decision-making, clinical competence, professional identity, and sound clinical judgment in the next generation of behavioral health professionals. Effective supervision requires supervisors to be reflective, collaborative, and courageous enough to consider the becoming of a counselor as important as the act of counseling.

Recognizing supervision as an inherently multicultural process, grounded in collaboration, solidarity, and a shared commitment to client well-being, this training provides an experiential learning environment in which supervisors learn to listen alongside their supervisees to the lived experiences of others. In doing so, and with the support of colleagues and community, supervisors can become not only better listeners and clinicians, but also more thoughtful and responsive people.

This two-day Clinical Supervision Training is designed for Washington State licensed mental health professionals seeking to become Washington State Approved Clinical Supervisors. Participants will complete the required 15 hours of supervision education while developing the knowledge, skills, and practical framework necessary to provide ethical, competent, and effective clinical supervision. The training satisfies the supervision education requirements outlined in Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-809-334.

Through engaging lectures, guided discussion, and practical clinical examples, participants will examine the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities of the supervisor; models and methods of clinical supervision; developmental approaches to supervision; evaluation and feedback strategies; gatekeeping; culturally responsive supervision; documentation; and risk management. Participants will also receive practical supervisory resources and templates that can be immediately incorporated into their supervision practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities of a Washington State Approved Clinical Supervisor.
  2. Apply Washington State laws, regulations, and ethical standards to the practice of clinical supervision.
  3. Explain major models, methods, and developmental approaches to clinical supervision.
  4. Establish effective supervisory relationships that foster supervisee growth, accountability, and professional identity.
  5. Develop comprehensive Supervision Agreements that clearly define expectations, evaluation procedures, and supervisory responsibilities.
  6. Structure individual, triadic, and group supervision using evidence-informed supervisory practices.
  7. Utilize effective methods for observation, documentation, feedback, and evaluation of supervisee competence and professional development.
  8. Apply culturally-responsive supervision practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural humility, and health equity.
  9. Recognize and appropriately respond to supervisees’ performance concerns, ethical issues, impairment, and gatekeeping responsibilities.
  10. Integrate best practices in documentation, recordkeeping, financial management, practice management, continuity planning, and risk management consistent with Washington State supervisory requirements.
