LGBTQI Awareness Month
As we honor LGBTQI+ Awareness Month, WMHCA acknowledges the unique challenges faced by individuals within these communities. We recognize that LGBTQI+ individuals experience higher rates of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, often due to discrimination, stigma, and lack of support. Washington counselors have a vital role in providing affirming and inclusive care that not only addresses mental health but also validates diverse identities.
For counselors, creating a safe, respectful, and empowering therapeutic environment is essential. This month, we urge all Washington counselors to reflect on their practice, continue their education, and commit to advocacy and inclusivity for LGBTQI+ individuals.
