The Washington Mental Health Counselor Association is accepting applications to our board for the 2026-2027 cycle. WMHCA is passionate about supporting clinicians through education, advocacy, and membership outreach.

WMHCA is accepting applications for President-elect, Treasurer, Graduate Student Representative, and general Board Members.  Any member of WMHCA is able to apply for these positions if they have been a member for at least one year (requirement waived for the graduate student representative).

Terms start July 1, 2026

  • The Treasurer serves a 2 year term.

  • The Graduate Student Representative serves a 1 year term

  • General Board Members serve a 2 year term.

  • President-Elect serves a 3 year term. (1 year as President-elect, 1 year as President, 1 year as Past-president)

Recommended Qualifications and Commitment

  • Have been a WMHCA member in good standing for at least 1 year.

  • Demonstrated leadership commitment and involvement with WMHCA by serving on a committee or task force

  • Have expertise in the field of clinical mental health counseling and demonstrated dedication to the field. Examples include familiarity with federal and state regulations, private practice, community mental health, integrated care, counselor education, evidence-based practices,and ethics, to name a few.

  • Committed to attend board meetings, to serve on one WMHCA committee and to attend WMHCA's conference. Time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month for general Board Members, time commitment will be higher for leadership positions.

  • Committed to attend required board trainings and onboarding meetings.

  • Thinks strategically and are able to work collaboratively with others.

  • Committed to WMHCA's mission: The Washington Mental Health Counselors Association is a LEADER in promoting human dignity in mental health. Our distinct professional identity embraces anti-racism, anti-ableism, education, public policy, community building, and relational advocacy. WMHCA is transforming counseling by integrating anti-racism into all aspects of the profession.

Application Deadline:  March 9th, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Applicants will be notified by March 13th, 2026 if their application was accepted. Incomplete applications or applications that do not meet the requirements will not be accepted. 

The elections will be held March 23rd - April 3rd, 2026. Applicants will be notified by April 10th, 2026 and election results will be published in WMHCA's April newsletter. New board members will be welcomed at WMHCA's board meeting in May/June (exact date TBD).
