Barriers in the Mental Health Profession Workgroup hosted by WMHCA

WMHCA is pleased to announce we are hosting a work group to gather together mental health professionals for the purpose of coming up with solutions to workforce issues. We are inviting all stakeholders of licensed mental health professions to join us in being proactive in planning for the 2023 legislative session. We are also interested in generating ideas we can enact directly within our professional sphere of influence. We will host the group via Zoom to ensure equity in participation from across the state.
We will begin the work group with a brief overview of the past and current workforce issues we are addressing. Participants should come ready to spend time in breakout rooms identifying current barriers within the professions and potential solutions. We are interested in producing ideas to combat common barriers across the professional life span. Examples of breakout groups may include:
Attracting new professionals, i.e. scholarships, admissions and completion equity in masters programs, paid internships, etc,
Transition from associate to independent practice licenses, i.e. cost of supervision, availability of supervisors, limits on insurance billing, etc, Insurance reimbursement and billing equity,
Workforce attrition.
