In this 6 hour training we will be learning about a variety of Archetypes and how they function in our clients, as well as how to release any dysfunctional aspects from their personality style. The clinician’s skills at recognizing these archetypes will improve, and they will learn how to help clients gain valuable knowledge about how archetypes influence their choices and lives.
Archetypes operate at many different levels and function within us in various ways. There are many positive functions and these will be made more conscious by this process. Archetypes can also be limiting your clients in that they may have taken on larger proportions, even mythical, and the client overly identifies with a particular one, allowing it to dominate how they perceive situations and thus, how they act. In this way their behaviors and ways of thinking that are associated with the particular archetype become compulsive and do not allow your client the awareness or freedom to choose another way.
Once the positive and negative qualities of an archetype in a client’s life have been established, we will guide you through a protocol that will allow them to shift their relationship with it. Often clients are compulsively “rescuing” others, “over achieving/over responsible”, or “under achieving/under responsible”, “being heroic” or being a “scapegoat”. They report that they do not want to continue these behaviors. However, they are not able to change to a more balanced perspective.
We will teach a simple protocol that will allow the clinician to help the client shift their relationship to the archetype. As a result that archetype will cease to have the power of a mythic identity and return to simply being an aspect of their personality. They will then be able to develop other strategies that work better, see situations from a more balanced perspective, and make choices that better serve their lives.
In this course participants will be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge of archetypes and ability to recognize.
- Knowledge of and ability to identify an archetypal identity and its positive and dysfunctional consequences.
- Knowledge of and ability to restore archetypal identity back into perspective as a personality aspect.
This course is approved for 6 CE’s for LMHC’s, LMFT’s, LCSW’s and all associate level licensees
