Canine-Assisted Therapy: The Other Therapist in the Room online zoom event

Welcome to The Aspen Connection's Continuing Education Course on Canine-Assisted Therapy! This course is for anyone in a mental health or related field seeking continuing education credits in the state of Washington. Other healthcare professionals and students are also welcome who are interested in understanding how to work with a therapy dog, though the focus of this training is to help therapists/counselors work with therapy dogs in a one-on-one, group, or treatment settings. In this course, you will takeaway the following:
Learn a brief history of animals in therapy, the difference between service animals, therapy animals, and support animals, and understand basic canine body language.
Gain an understanding of why/how canine therapy works; what working with a therapy dog can do for you, your colleagues, and your clients.
Theory of AAT and therapeutic interventions and activities to offer with a therapy dog and clients in agency and/or private practice settings, including liability and insurance considerations.
8 CEU credit hours through the WMHCA toward licensure for LMHC’s, LICSW’s, and LMFT’s in the state of WA.
